 Insider Info

Known for its music, food, architecture and parties, New Orleans is the most unique city in the United States and at its heart is the French Quarter. The Quarter is not just another tourist destination. It's the blending of the people and architecture that creates the soul of the city. The French Quarter New Orleans is the only intact French Colonial and Spanish settlement remaining in the United States. It has been a continuous residential neighborhood since 1718.

French Quarter Festival turned 20 years old in 2003, and is expected to attract nearly 300,000 locals and visitors to the historic Vieux Carré (French Quarter) for the best in New Orleans music, food and fun. From the sounds of jazz floating on the sultry air down Bourbon Street to the sights of lush and serene hidden courtyards peeking through wrought iron gates; from the scents of Magnolia and Jasmine perfuming the air to the tastes of some of the world's finest restaurants - the French Quarter offers unforgettable and endless experiences to the traveler.

City continues
to recover - Brad Pitt helping

New Orleans was ready for Mardi Gras just six months after Hurricane Katrina hit.

The storm spared the city's French Quarter and Garden District and major attractions such as the National D-Day Museum, Harrah's casino and Cafe du Monde have reopened.

The New Orleans Aquarium is now open.
